Charles Savage papers, 1797-1865 ; bulk: 1797-1840.

Papers of merchant Charles Savage (1785-1840) include accounts, receipts, invoices, and correspondence related to his work with Frazier, Savage, and Co. in Boston, 1806-10; while trading in Ireland, 1816; and his work with Savage and Lewis, (later Savage and Company), in Louisville, Ky., 1818-22. These papers also include insurance policies and witnessed accounts of the seaworthiness of various ships including the schooner Sally and brig Eliza; and inventories of goods sold such as tobacco, cotton, linens, sugar, rum, and whiskey, among other items. In 1829 Savage became the U.S. consul for Guatemala and the collection contains correspondence to his family describing the country, and from his brother William Henry regarding family and business matters. Collection also includes account books, memo books, and six bound ledgers from Savage and Lewis, and Savage and Company, 1818-1822; and Savage family genealogical information, 1865.
